Description:
Here is an incredible deep English Cranberry antique marmalade with dual applied trail. Both the stylized V petals in Vaseline and the modified vertical rigaree edge are trademarks of Stuart & Sons Ltd. of the Albert Glassworks in Wordsley. The design is gorgeous, and the value of the set is greatly enhanced by the positive identification of the manufacturer of the original EPNS stamped frame. The maker's mark stands for George Wish of Sheffield. Both this marmalade and stand date from the period ca. 1885 - 1895. See a match to this bowl in Gulliver, P. 33. The trail glows beautifully under black light.George Wish was active in Sheffield (Denmark Works, Norfolk Lane) until 1877 trading with William Henry Sampson under the name Sampson & Wish. After the dissolution of the partnership with Sampson he continued the business at the same address moving in 1893 its Denmark Works to Burgess Street. In 1914 the business was converted into a limited liability company under the name of George Wish & Co Ltd.
