Description:
This is a rare, elegant and petite American Bow Front half Sideboard. It is in a very rich birch and tiger maple. Having two drawers over two cupboard doors that are flanked on each side by wine cellar drawers with a long drawer at the bottom ending in a very shapely cut out skirt. It has nicely turned and reeded columns with a shapely back splash. The condition is very good considering that this sideboard dates from around 1810. There is a crooked vertical crack in the side panel - due to age and it has been there for a very long time. There are also a very few minor stresses to the surface. The wood is rich and buttery with a wonderful rich patina. It is nicely finished off with tiger maple drawer pulls. It measures 45” high x 40” wide x 20” deep. Attributed to cabinetmaker Alden Spooner of Athol Mass.
