Description:
A Very Beautiful and Early Porcelain Shell Dish, Circa 1770, by Worcester Porcelains of England. A rare size and form, (7.25" by 8"). Decorated by the famous London painter, James Giles. The rim of the dish is gilded with a thin line and backed by a low relief basket weave border. The design of Exotic Birds in Landscapes is characteristic of Giles's workshop painting as discussed by Stephen Hanscombe in the book " James Giles, China and Glass Painter 1718-80." The shading and tones are quite nice and characteristic of the quality works being done during this period. The Dish is in Excellent Condition.
