Description:
This exquisite antique doll has a wax face and hands, with a cloth, stuffed body. The hands are "mitten" style, without individual fingers and just a hint of thumb. The lovely face has hand-painted blue eyes, finely drawn eyebrows, and red lips, cheeks, and nostrils. All clothing is hand-sewn. Her full, light brown skirt covers lavendar leggings and white undergarment. She wears leather hand-sewn shoes in deep burgundy with purple ribbon bows. The blue blouse is adorned with 4 sequins and beaded lace on the sleeves; over this is a hand-embroidered shawl in yellow. The design embroidered is blue & red flowers, green leaves, and brown vines. A lace collar peeks out above the shawl. Her blond hair seems to be real hair (or something very like it), and is braided and wound in a circlet on the back of her head. She wears a beautful bonnet of lace with blue & red embroidered trim, silver metal beads, and a purple ribbon that ties under her chin.
She stands on a 3 inch long oval, wooden, hand-carved pedestal. On the bottom of the pedestal is a 1 inch red paper heart with "Westfalen" hand-written in pencil, under which is a drawing of simple flowers. This wondrous treasure is in perfect condition except for very slightly mussed hair and 1 missing sequin under the shawl. It is from a private collection (please see the other 3 antique wax dolls for sale in my GoAntiques site, Give Me a Home Antiques), and dates to the late 1800s or early 1900s.
