Description:
This jardiniere has an oval form with a shaped body onto a cast terling silver oval pierced decorated frame incorporating four shaped bracket style feet. The lower convex portion of the body has fluted embossed decoration with four panels of emboseed and chased floral and foliate decoration. Above this is a broad band of profuse embossed and chased floral and foliate decoration with two vacant shaped cartouche, one to either side of the jardiniere. The jardiniere has shaped rim with a pierced decorated acanthus leaf design including two applied cast and chased female masks situated above the vacant cartouche. The jardiniere is fitted at either end with two fine cast sterling silver winged figurehead handles. Small mystical, dragon like creatures sit on the head of each figure. The interior of the jardiniere is silver gilt. This very fine jardiniere is an extremely good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition. The decoration is very crisp and sharp. The hallmarks struck to the side of the body are very clear. Reflections in photography may not give a true representation of this item.
