Description:
This imposing Late 19th Century Antique Victorian Lustred Maiolica Vase on Foot comes from the Florentine workshop of Ulisse Cantagalli, renowned for his production of pieces inspired by the classical traditions of the ancient world. The wonderful lustred finish on this fine vase imitates the earlier Hispano - Moresque pieces, which themselves drew inspiration from antique Persian and Middle Eastern glazes and designs. This vase comes complete with an endearing "Tower of Pisa" like lean, when viewed from one angle, which idiosyncracy serves only to add to it's antique charm. Fine original condition throughout with only minor glaze chips and signed upon the underside of the foot in underglaze blue with the cockerel motif and the numeral 11. Ref.
