Description: Victorian brooch / pin in a gilt metal frame with an amethyst glass cameo of a woman's head backed on French jet. Depicts Queen Louise of Prussia. Made mid 19th century.

2 inches high.

Openwork gilt metal frame. Contains a black French jet oval on which is an amethyst glass head of Queen Louise of Prussia, who was beloved as a very good and beautiful woman. Neo-Classical hair and style. Great detail to hair, beads, bare shoulders. Beautiful play of light through the purple glass.

Good condition with very minor roughness to edges, shown highly magnified in the 'photos.

The beautiful Queen Louise was often depicted and a similar looking item (in real amethyst and gold) in Bell's book on Collecting Victorian Jewelry, page 140 - priced at $5355.- is shown in the bottom photograph.
