Description:
The Townley Vase of Antiquity! This is a bronze lamp in high repousse bronze - made in the 19th century after the famous Townley Vase discovery. The original Townley vase was marble and discovered in 1773. It was named for its subsequent owner Charles Townley 1737-1804 which is now displayed in the British Museum. This magnificent lamp measures 22"high to top of the handles and 27" high to the top of the electrical fitting. It has an approx overall diameter of 12” with an 8 ½" square base. The lamp is extremely heavy with a wonderful rich brown and verde surface patina - that is untouched. There is one very small old repair to the inside base of the handle which is very hard to notice it unless you are using a magnifying glass. Otherwise it is in spectacular condition and begging for a great shade!
