Description:
Antique Swiss Stained Glass Panel.
"Swiss Guards". This 19th century panel is infact a copy of a 16th century original. It is all hand painted, with the two main figures being two Swiss Guards in costume and holding weapons/swords. Above them is a small hunting scene, with dogs hunting a stag (and a cheeky chappy behind a tree). Below is a painted inscription and two coats of arms, with the date of 1582. In between the two guards is a small landscape scene of a castle on a hill and a church. This panel has so much detail, the hand painting is excellent quality. The colours of the guards uniforms is deep red and green. A lovely compact panel with lots of glass and lead work. This panel is in excellent condition and has had no repair whatsoever. It is not in a frame, but has two loops attatched with brass wire so it can be hung up at a window or it could be inserted or built-up into a larger window.
