The flame mahogany, having been treated to an elaborate finishing process that includes hand-distressing and hand-polishing, displays an incredibly rich complexion as well as the famously striking grain for which flame mahogany is known worldwide. Lustrous satinwood crossbanding around the drawer fronts complements the flame mahogany beautifully, while the antiqued solid brass swan neck drop pulls also contrast quite well with the mahogany. The astragal glass moulding and shaped bracket feet also look quite lovely. Inside the secretary section, brown leather bordered by hand-worked gold tooling and embossing forms an impressive writing surface, while elegant serpentine drawers also contribute to creating a beautiful workspace. In short, this hand-made English mahogany secretary bookcase exudes the most supreme form of elegance available to the furniture-making world of today. As useful as it is visually pleasing, this English secretary bookcase also contains three large drawers, each featuring hand-cut dovetailed joints. The upper bookcase section also locks with an accompanying key, as does the secretary section, within which there is also a small, locking cabinet door. The shaped bracket feet are also incredibly strong, as we have learned through our experience in dealing antique furniture, since many of the bookcases, chests and other furniture pieces surviving from two hundred years ago were crafted with the same kind of shaped bracket feet. Indeed, all of the techniques used in the making of this English secretary bookcase are the same techniques used by furniture craftsman of old, a fact even more evident in light of the fact that the maker of this secretary bookcase is a third-generation cabinetmaker.
