Description:
This magnificent walnut bureau was hand-crafted in England around 1960. Since then, the beautiful wood has acquired a lovely patina, which enriches the already unique walnut grain, producing a gorgeous, antique appearance. The plentiful crackling enhances this effect, providing the piece with a grace and charm otherwise unattainable. The fantastic design of the piece is quite striking, manifest in attractive cabriole legs, shaped skirt, elegant brass pulls, and serpentine construction. Smaller details enhance these more obvious features: crossbanding, carefully crafted moulding, the shaped bureau slant, carving along the skirt, and finished drawer interiors (a sign of fine craftsmanship). The key to the top swing down writing surface is missing. The piece contains no significant flaws, except perhaps the crackling which, charming though it is, probably resulted from poor storage in England, rather than age (the piece is about fifty years old). Otherwise the piece retains an excellent condition. Additionally there are two large drawers as well as four small interior drawers and cabinet space. Useful, exquisitely crafted and stunningly beautiful, this walnut bureau would make a fine addition to any home or office!
