Description: 19th century Scottish silver and gemstone brooch / pendant.
Measures 2 1/4inches from top to bottom. Can be worn as a pin/brooch and has a ring for hanging as a pendant.
The entire piece is infused with Scottish symbolism.
Heraldic shield with crown on top, set with a variety of gemstones - citrines, amethysts, opals etc. A large, faceted oval citrine is in the center, 4 silver beads on each side in the form of a cross, meet with an engraved Scottish thistle. The sides of the shield and the crown are all delicately engraved. There are no hallmarks, which is common for Scottish silver of the 19th century.
Condition is extremely good - no damage of any sort.
There is an identically-shaped pin, called a Luckenbooth pin, in J MILLERS Price Guide 2003 (page 404, with LESS detail and less gems and the price estimate is $700-1000.- Another, of different form has the same price.
