Description:
Authentic Antique 18th - 19th century Russian Asiatic sword 'Shashka' from the former Russian Empire.. Details: A slightly curved single edged blade decorated on both sides with four hand chiseled cartouches with a scene depicting a lion pursuing a deer. The ricasso is stamped with the maker's name inscribed in Arabic letters. The hilt is with dark brown wooden grip-scales with a characteristic hooked bifurcated pommel. The sword is with its original black leather covered wooden scabbard. Condition: The sword is in good condition except for a small crack in the blade with an old repair by brass. Measurements: The overall length with the scabbard is 90,3 cm (35 1/2 in). The overall length without the scabbard is 89,6 cm (35 3/8 in). REFERENSES: Similar sword is published in “The Lyle Official Arms &Armour Review 1983” page 114 identified as Caucasian Shasqua These types of Shashka were also used by the Russian Central Asian Cossacks.
