Antique Renaissance Revival Cast Iron Relief Basin, 19C
Description: Massive Antique Renaissance Revival Continental Gilt Cast Iron Relief Garden/Fountain Basin or Wall Charger/Bowl, 19th C. Probably France. The surface of the circular basin is cast in low relief with an intricate patterned including cherubs, satyrs, crabs, swans, snakes, pitchers, urns and weapons and armor around a central medallion with a portrait of King Francois I (ruled: 1515-1547) and the text: "FRANCOIS I. ROI DE FRANCE". There is a hinged hanger/hook mounted to the back of the basin (for hanging). The back of the basin is marked in the cast: "112" (below the hanger) and "927" (along the back rim). Dimensions: 24-3/4" Diameter, 3" Deep. Weight: 25lbs. 6oz. Condition: There are three holes to the surface of the basin which have some minor wear around the edges (holes appear to be original to the manufacture of the piece for drainage or mounting purposes. There is considerable rubbing/wear to the gilded surface and edges of the basin with some minor rust colored oxidation/residue along the interior surface. There is some rubbing/wear and paint residue to the back of the piece. Otherwise, the basin is in good condition.
