Antique Regency Inlaid Wood Envelope Letter Box 19th C
Description: Antique Regency Inlaid Rosewood Envelope Letter Box, 19th C. England. The hexagonal shaped box features a hinged slanted cover with inlaid silver or metal band border and mother of pearl text: "Enveloped, &c". The front of the box features an inlaid mother of pearl key plate escutcheon. The interior of the box is divided into five compartments and is lined with patterned paper. The base of the box is lined with green fabric. Dimensions: 5-1/2" High, 8-1/4" Wide, 5-3/8" Deep. Weight: 1.27lbs. (20.45oz.) Condition: The key to the lock is missing. There are some cracks to the surface of the wood veneer along the top and sides of the box. There are some losses and peeling to the veneer along the interior rim of the cover and base. There is a crack and small loss to the veneer along the upper left corner of the cover which has been re-glued. The left hinge to the cover is loose. There is some light scratching/denting/wear to the surface of the wood. There is some staining/tearing/wear to the paper-lined interior (one of the partitions is missing). Otherwise, the piece is in good condition.
