These chairs have to be about one of my most favorite finds. Sublime lines, fantastic condition, wonderful construction (please see photos for mortise and tenon joint and peg construction). Overall, just awesome.
This is a PAIR of pine chairs with more than ample charm.
Features:
- Klismos styling (defined as broad top rail and curved stiles and legs)
- Sabre-like front legs
- Plain read legs that flare back
- Broad curved top rail
- Paired plain splats mid back
- Concave stiles upward from seat to top rail
- Back made of one piece of wood along with the back legs, making for a stronger chair
- Solid plank seat in a somewhat shield shape
- Single front turned stretcher
- Paired plain side and back strectchers
- mortise and tenon joint and peg construction
Dimensions:
35" tall.........19 1/8" tall to seat...........16.5" backrest.......13.5" deep seat.........16 1/8 wide seat.......15.5" deep at deepest measurements.
Year: Based on the construction methods, wood type and styling, I date them to the mid 1800's
Condition: Very good for age. One chair has a split plank seat and a stile with a gouge. Otherwise in fabulous antique condition!
