Description: Have tools, will travel! For those who have to travel with their specialized tools, a fine chest of drawers, made of Oak, then in cased in a steel framed trunk. This is a rare opportunity to buy a rarely seen traveling tool case. This one was made and marked on the brass label by ROGERS & MADISON TRUNK CORP. GENUINE 3 PLY DRESS AND WARDROBE TRUNKS".
Size of the exterior of the trunk is: 31.5W x 22.5H x 11.0D INCHES.
Drawers interiors measure: 13.1W x 8.0D x 1-3.0 Deep INCHES.
This is a very well made trunk, very sturdy frame, made to by moved, good strong handles, latches and framing. The exterior is made of a material I am not familiar with, but I think it is an early form of fiberglass. It is not the prettiest exterior, but has held up very well with no damage to report, just discoloration and some staining. The steel frame has about 70% of it's original black paint intact, not rusty, but some paint is scratched off. The interior is all oak except for the insides of the drawers, the drawer sides and bottoms are all secondary hardwoods. The drawers are in good condition, not as heavy duty as some machinist chests, but strong enough to handle about 10 pounds in each drawer. Each drawer has a pair of pull stop pins that keep the drawer from being pulled to far out by accident. The drawer can be carefully removed by lifting up on the bottom of the drawers and pulling up and out. Some of the drawer have partitions, some have had the partitions remove, one drawer has a special holder for round items. Some of the drawer are very clean inside, others have light soiling and stains. The exterior drawer pulls are brass strips held in place by two screws. Some are slightly bend outward, not bad. There is one area inside the chest where the oak has chipped off in one small area near the center, lower drawer. It's still plenty strong in this areas, sometimes wood will crack along a the grain, this appears t have happened here.
Overall the chest is in good condition, is well made, very sturdy, clean, suitable for many uses!
We have several more pictures if you would like to see them, just ask us.
