Description:
Late 19th. Century French or English Mother of Pearl and Sterling Silver Calling Card Case. Simply stunning, the card case is detailed with a silver cartouche and silver framing around the entire front. It takes a few moments….to take in the sumptuous details on this piece. The interior has blue satin concertina or accordion (pleats). Calling cards were used during Victorian times by ladies and gentlemen of means…they were part of the fabric of Victorian life. The custom of leaving a card when making social visits spawned the need for special cases. As usual for the Victorians, that need had to be fulfilled by a beautiful item.
