Antique MOP Inlaid Rosewood Jewelry Sewing Box, 19th C.
Description: Antique Mother of Pearl Inlaid Rosewood Jewelry Sewing Box, 19th C. England or Scotland. The surface of the hinged cover and front of the box are inlaid with pierced scrolled floral borders/motifs in mother of pearl with beaded wood bands along the edges. The interior is lined with rose colored paper. The box is not signed/marked. Dimensions: 4-5/8" High, 10-7/8" Wide, 8-5/8" Deep. Weight: 2lbs. (32oz.) Condition: The box has been repaired/restored. There are a number of chips/cracks/losses to the inlaid mother of pearl pattern along the surface of the cover and front of the box which have been filled with a wax-like material and/or overpainted with a slightly metallic paint (appears to be a compound with mica flecks). The front left corner of the beaded border/band around the raised level on the cover is cracked and loose (pulling away). The key to the lock and tray to the interior are missing. There is some light scratching/denting to the surface and edges of the box. There is considerable chipping/wear to the paper lining along the interior of the box. Otherwise, the box is in fair/good condition.
