Description: Authentic antique 18th-19th Century Miniature, on Ivory hand painted full-length portrait of knight, a high rank Army Commander wearing superb quality armour made in the manner of a fabric jacket, richly decorated by bluing and with gilded decoration with a rapier hanging on a beautiful belt on his left side. His right hand is resting on a spectacular helmet richly decorated in gold, and behind his left arm is a large round shield with gold decoration ensuite with armour and helmet. The painting is signed on the bottom left by the artist, but unfortunately we are not able to read the name of the artist. Condition: On the left side of the miniature is a crack which probably occurred when the miniature, which is painted on stiff flat Ivory panel, was remounted in the 19th century and placed to the present case and then glued to a paper board. There are some signs of restoration on the painting. The leather bound case is most likely a later 19th century addition. Dimensions in the case 17.5 cm (6 7/8 in) 13.5cm (5 3/8 in). The size of the actual Ivory miniature without the frame (excluding the case and frame) is approximately 12. 3cm (4 7/8 in) high and 9 cm (3 1/2 in) wide.
