Description:
This tremendous Meiji bronze vase, circa 1890, measures 27" tall and 17" wide, and features a reticulated body with decorative takazogan (high relief) panels depicting a foo dog, circular-shaped dragon vase, and male figure hauling a basket of fish beside a large censer or tea pot filled with scrolls and other objects. These designs are certainly allegorical in some way, but we do not know their meaning. It has a flared neck with elephant masks and the body is pierced throughout with a geometric pattern. It is raised on three fu dog (fu lion) masked feet. This item resides with our client on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York and may be seen by appointment. Additional images forwarded upon request. ( hantiques )
