Description:
This old Hispanic santos figurine measures an impressive 48" by 20" by 14", and weighs an estimated 20-30 lbs. It is crafted from carved wood with polychrome painted decoration, but no longer has its original clothing or other adornments. There is a crack visible along the top of the pedestal and through the underside, but the entire piece is structurally sound. There are also minor paint losses here and there. The arms rotate and bend at the shoulder and elbow, and the forearms are not affixed and remain in place via dowel. The pedestal is decorated with carved cherubs in high relief. It is believed to date from the early twentieth century and likely comes from Mexico or Central America. This item resides in our client's gallery in Westchester County NY, and may be seen in person by appointment.
