Description: Antique Persian Kerman Rug, circa 1900 Although the weave and the stylized undulating vase designs of this lavish antique Kerman identify its origin, the floral shrub motifs and coloration in deep red, soft green, and ivory all derive from the tradition of classical Indian or Mogul carpets. The palette of the field is beautifully echoed in reverse by the borders, whose variant forms and reliance on ivory provide a lovely foil for the dominant red of the field.
