Description: The natural, unpretentious beauty of Shigaraki ash glazes and accidental firing qualities of Shigaraki-ware often caught the eye of the tea masters in antiquity. Very apparent in this tea jar "chatsubo'". These type of tea jars were used to transport tea leaves from south Kyoto to the capital in Meiji Period. c.1890. (22" x 19") (59cm x 48cm).
