Description:
Items #588-604 are elements of Japanese Samurai Armor dating to the Edo Period (1603-1867). Complete armors are now quite rare and when encountered, usually extensively restored. These elements each display the meticulous craftsmanship and fine artistry associated with Japanese art. They draw on virtually every skill of the Japanese artisan including lacquer work, steel forging, weaving and millinery, engraving, chasing and leather crafting. Each is a work of art in itself and worthy of a place in any arms and armor collection. Conventional form on fine brocade body. Mail matrix with rows of ribbed plates to the upper and lower arm. Five plate elbow protection and three plate top. Four plate articulated hand. About excellent for the period with near all black lacquered finish to the mail and plates. A few cracks to the plates but secured by the mail.
