Description:
Items #588-604 are elements of Japanese Samurai Armor dating to the Edo Period (1603-1867). Complete armors are now quite rare and when encountered, usually extensively restored. These elements each display the meticulous craftsmanship and fine artistry associated with Japanese art. They draw on virtually every skill of the Japanese artisan including lacquer work, steel forging, weaving and millinery, engraving, chasing and leather crafting. Each is a work of art in itself and worthy of a place in any arms and armor collection. Green brocade body with large underarm protection, front a little frayed but complete. Fine black lacquered armor comprising three piece top bar, 36 rectangular upper plates, mail matrix with high embossed elbow piece, five lower plates and four piece articulated hand protection. All complete and sound with 90%+ lacquer remaining.
