Description:
Items #588-604 are elements of Japanese Samurai Armor dating to the Edo Period (1603-1867). Complete armors are now quite rare and when encountered, usually extensively restored. These elements each display the meticulous craftsmanship and fine artistry associated with Japanese art. They draw on virtually every skill of the Japanese artisan including lacquer work, steel forging, weaving and millinery, engraving, chasing and leather crafting. Each is a work of art in itself and worthy of a place in any arms and armor collection. Wonderful abstraction! EDO PERIOD JAPANESE KOTE. Armor and mail only, removed from the cloth backing which probably perished. Black lacquered throughout. Comprising central mail panel with five piece elbow protection, three large contoured forearm plates and vertical rows of ribbed plates above. The sides each with mail in open net form. Excellent throughout. Should be framed for a stunning display.
