Description:
Items #588-604 are elements of Japanese Samurai Armor dating to the Edo Period (1603-1867). Complete armors are now quite rare and when encountered, usually extensively restored. These elements each display the meticulous craftsmanship and fine artistry associated with Japanese art. They draw on virtually every skill of the Japanese artisan including lacquer work, steel forging, weaving and millinery, engraving, chasing and leather crafting. Each is a work of art in itself and worthy of a place in any arms and armor collection. Exceptional elements on JAPANESE KOTE, EDO PERIOD. Silk brocade body. The upper with mail matrix surrounding five rows of large plates, pyramidal alternating with embossed radially fluted round. Two piece similar plate elbow protection and four forearm plates. Four piece articulated hand (tiny thumb tip lacking). Cloth quite good for the period. The plates with just about all original black lacquer.
