Description:
Items #588-604 are elements of Japanese Samurai Armor dating to the Edo Period (1603-1867). Complete armors are now quite rare and when encountered, usually extensively restored. These elements each display the meticulous craftsmanship and fine artistry associated with Japanese art. They draw on virtually every skill of the Japanese artisan including lacquer work, steel forging, weaving and millinery, engraving, chasing and leather crafting. Each is a work of art in itself and worthy of a place in any arms and armor collection. With distinct battle damage. Blue canvas body. Horizontal upper plate over five rows of vertical plates and mail elbow protection. Five plate forearm protection and two plate hand. Mail and plates with red lacquer about 70% intact. Fabric sound. Five cracks to the plates including one field mended and part of one lacking. One plate corner crushed from a blow and three distinct sword blows showing to the upper plates.
