Description: Antique Indo-Persian Silk Carpet, 19th Century - A central medallion outlined in blue is surrounded by ever larger undulating forms or medallions in orange and ivory on this sumptuous antique Indian carpet. The wavy cornerpieces in blue pick up the outline of the central roundel. The magnificent border adapts the undulating format as a grand frame for the entire composition in shades of soft purple, gold, and green. Throughout, the carpet is graced by a rich array of classic Persian arabesques and palmettes. The rich but delicate palette of the carpet appears all the more lovely because of the use of lustrous silk pile.
