Description:
This classic, heavy cast brass mail box measures about 5.25 inches wide by 1.75 deep by 12 inches long, not including the hooks on the bottom for a rolled newspaper or magazine. These hooks are attached with matching decorative rivets, which also attach a flat plate to the back. Notice the pretty shape on the top, the top flap, the opening, and the hinged door, which fits over a loop so that it can be padlocked. The mail goes in the small flap; it can't be removed from there. You have to open the hinged door to get the mail out. There is a little "window" grate so you can see if there is mail inside; a very nice feature of this letter box is that the grate/ window is bowed out in a bulge. There are holes for screws to fasten it to a surface on the top and the bottom. This charming mailbox is very heavy, like cast iron, but I tested it with a magnet and it did not adhere. The surface has a lovely old mottled patina; I will leave the polishing to the buyer, as some prefer the old patina. It appears that it was once painted black--or at least the newspaper hooks were--as there is a little paint remaining on their surfaces. It is in excellent condition, with some evidence of its age here and there.
