Description:
This is a phenomenal example of Victorian master craftsmanship! The style hints of Austrian quality. The Austrians of the Victorian era quickly became the wood carvers of choice for the social elite. Unsurpassed master craftsmanship is the best way to describe the stigma attached to the Austrian carvers of wood and ivory. This fine Parrot cane is no exception to that statement. The entire shaft is carved as a fully barked tree branch to enhance the desired effect of the scene. This stick is stout and sturdy and would leave a healthy lump on the head of a over aggressive beggar or cad as you walked your lady friend down the boulevard. This highly detailed bird sports very rare yellow glass eyes and demands a smile every time you look at him. He is perfectly carved right down to his tail feathers. The horn ferrule may be a replacement but it could be that he was carried only on special occasions and just didn’t get much wear. I will let the new owner decide.
DO NOT let this one get away! I do not say this often but this fellow deserves that statement. More photos are available upon request.
