Description: A beautifully carved antique Japanese Taisho Period c.1915 carved wooden hinoki (Japanese cypress) buddha. Covered in gold lacquer with intricately carved clouds behind the seated buddha. From a zen temple in Nagahama, south Osaka. These buddhas were commissioned by parishoners or 'danka' of a particular buddhist temple to be carved and gifted to the temple so that their wish or hope would be granted. c.1915.
