Description: Antique Early George 111 Silver Mote Spoon. Made in London,circa 1760. Originally used to skim the "motes"(floating tea-leaves on the surface of freshly poured tea) as teastrainers did not come into being until about 1790. The spiked handle was used to loosen clogged up tea-leaves in the spout of the teapot. This spoon has a lovely patina and the original owners initials engraved on the back of the bowl.
