This is a stunning imari pattern English Gaudy Welsh cream and sugar set made in England in the 1870s. The cream or creamer and sugar basin are hand painted in the popular victorian imari pattern taken from the Japanese ceramics from the imari region with bright cobalt blue and red with heavy gold accents, trim and interiors that is really stunning.The pattern is also called Gaudy Welsh, as an English named version of Japanese Imari. The earthenware based cream jug measures 3.25 inches high by 7.75 inches long by 3.5 wide and sugar bowl measures 3.5 inches high by 8.25 long by 6 wide. The set is in very good +++ condition. The sugar is excellent with no chips cracks and only minor wear and the cream would be also but has an old repaired spout chip. A gorgeous example of the popular victorian imari or Gaudy Welsh style.
