Description: 19th century French card case made of large tortoise shell plaques. The case is rectangular form with rounded corners framed by silver open work and hand engraved geometric motifs. The center has a large irregular form engraved cartouche. The back has the same silver work. The interior has a newer blue velvet lining, a small thumb piece for opening and the case shuts tight. The shell has two small bubble to the back plaque, slight bend on the silver cartouche towards to the edge and wear is noted to the interior metal, otherwise in very good condition, consistent with age. The case measures 5 1/2" x 3 1/8". A beautiful card case to use or makes for an elegant cabinet display.
