Description: An antique bronze letter seal from France in the form of a putto or cherub. Beautifully detailed the putto holds a bird’s nest filled with three eggs. The expressive face, flowing curls and drape attest to fine workmanship. The seal is engraved with a single flower. Putti or cherubs have been used as an allusion to love or as love itself for centuries. Highly collectable, both putti and letter seals! Large in size the seal stands 4 inches high and sets on a round base that is ¾” in diameter. The condition is very good, no repairs that I can discern. The seal dates to the late 19th.
