Description: This large patinated bronze sculpture titled La Frayeur (The Fright), by Charles Georges Ferville Suan (1833-1891), measures an impressive 37.5" by 21" by 14.5". It depicts a bare-footed young man, partially draped in fur skin, with one hand wielding a club in defense of a coiled snake. This work is believed to date from the period of the artist or shortly thereafter. It is extremely heavy and we have not inspected nor photographed the underside. It is signed in the cast and there are no visible foundry marks.
