Antique Framed Silk Needlework Landscape Scene, 19th C.
Description: Antique Framed Hand Painted & Embroidered Needlework Landscape Scene on Silk, 19th C. Probably England. The panel depicts a country scene with two figures by a river, one figure on horseback on a bridge and castle/ or building with tower and trees. The faces, hands and feet of the two figures by the river are applied and appear to be paper. The silk background is painted in watercolor. The embroidered panel is mounted in a gilt wood frame fitted with reverse painted glass (painted with a wide black border & gold bands). The panel is not signed/marked. Dimensions: Frame: 17.8in. High, 21.5in. Wide, 0.8in. Deep. Panel (visible from front): 9.8in. High, 13.1in. Wide. Weight: 4.25lbs. Condition: The panel has not been examined out of the frame. The panel has been repaired/restored with some small patches and overpainting over the losses to the silk ground and edges of the panel. There is some scratching/denting/wear to the gilt wood frame. There is some bubbling to the reverse painted black border on the glass. There are a few scratches to the surface of the glass. Otherwise, the piece is in fair condition.
