Item Description:
This is a beautiful antique English dark oak Welsh dresser hutch. It features a beautiful hutch that includes 3 shelves for displaying plates and 2 small cabinets that have beautiful *astragal lead glazed glass doors, and it has a decorative scalloped top with fancy fretwork. The glass panels are slightly loose but are good as they are. In addition it has 2 smooth operating drawers with dovetail joinery that have carved facings with lovely round brass handles, and there is a spacious cabinet that has 3 shelves and 2 paneled doors with carved accents. One handle is missing but it is not distracting at all and one can be added if necessary.
This piece may show minor age appropriate signs of wear but as shown
it is overall in very good cosmetic and structural condition and it is strong and sturdy. This is an outstanding piece of furniture that will be cherished at home for many years.
What is astragal (wood or lead) glazing? As it pertains to later period furniture, it is a method of securing glass to the straight, semi-circular, or shaped moldings found on glass doors and windows of furniture. On newer reproduction furniture, the astragal molding may set atop the glass to give the appearance of glazing where on older English furniture, it is not uncommon for each piece of glass to be cut to shape and glazed into the molding.
