Description:
Beatiful Antique English Walnut Coal Box dating c.1900. This box is in excellent original condition, the only issue is the board on the bottom has split from age, however this doesn't really affect anything because the tin insert, the actual coal holder, is in place and secure. Original "behive" style handle with brass caps on top, original brass door pull and original handle on the back of the box. The wood has gorgeous patina, with that beautiful old worn look. If you're a walnut lover (like myself) you will really appreciate this piece. Also included is a copper shovel, although I believe this to be newer. Orginal paper label affixed to the bottom from *Barnby, Bendall & Co., Cheltenham, England. Measures 12.75W x 17"L x 12"H. The handle on top is 3"H x 8"W. The shovel is 12"L x 5"W. *Barnby, Bendall & Co. was founded by Peter Bendall in 1839. It later became the Barnby, Bendall & Co. Furniture & Storage Facility. It closed in 1976.
