Description: This is a beautiful old piece all carved from one piece of wood and lacquered. The old gentleman who supplies me with these Oriental pieces has travelled extensively in the East and has a very good knowledge on oriental pieces.He tells me that he purchased this one many years ago from a stall in SEOUL, but he assures me it is Chinese rather than Korean. According to him the elongated head, crane etc are symbols of long life. The wood has that marvelous smooth and slighty oily old age patina & feel.The lacquer has worn away in parts and there are a couple of small splits in the base area. Stands 14 1/2" high. He believes the piece dates to the mid to late 1800's.
