Description:
Antique Cantonese engraved silver chalice / goblet trophy. Made in China, 19th century. Measures 7 1/2 inches tall and weighs approx 320 grams. Double round base sloping elegantly to the stem with knopf, ringed on either side and in the middle, around the circumference. Further ridges extend around the stem near the base of the bowl. The large bowl in typical chalice form with continuous hand engraved decoration. A variety of exotic and water birds of various shapes and sizes wade and parade amidst Classic Chinese twisted branches, rocky crevices, sumptuous flowers, grasses and waterscapes. A reserve is engraved : 1st Prize Won by "Violet" Hong Kong Regatta 1889. The base is engraved with foliage and flowers. Engraved silver marks on the base, include Chinese signature. Condition generally very good.
