This is an exceptional Victorian game table. This fine mahogany table is called a handkerchief table ... so-called because it folds up like a handkerchief ... with the four points folding into the center. T is a loop in the center from which you pull up the first leaf ... then the rest easily unfold. Under the four leaves is a green felt gaming surface ... the felt is custom cut around four mahogany pits which hold game pieces or chips. It has a single drawer which is well made, with dovetails and custom fitted interior which holds several decks of cards, among other things. This drawer locks and comes with an ornate Victorian key. The table itself has absolutely outstanding Eastlake Victorian styling with beautifully carved legs, a lower shelf and well carved capitals. This fantastic table is a one of a kind treasure that will grace your home and provide you with hours of fun as a game table ... as well as impress your gaming friends with your style and taste. Age (circa) c1870-1890 Dimensions It measures 25" X 25" X 30" High. It opens to 34" X 34". Condition Good condition. A few minor character marks serve to verify vintage but t is nothing that would constitute damage. Sturdy. The gaming surface was re-felted recently and is pristine. Provenance The early 19th century home was set on a bucolic acre which had its own lake. The backyard was filled with nesting geese and a pair of swans who have apparently been nesting and breeding t for many years. The home was packed with treasures -- furniture, art and collectibles and these people had a very discerning eye. They had beautiful furniture, fine art that demonstrated eclectic taste as well as exquisite collectibles. Their collections ranged widely from 19th century antiques all the way through mid-20th century modernist items and their huge home was eclectically furnished ... but with only the finest things.
