Description:
This is a wonderful 19th century bronze sculpture signed Malh Moreau also marked with a foundry button that reads Medaille D’Honneur and a signature that reads HORS CONCOURS. The detail is fine and exceptional it is an absolutely wonderful subject. The bronze was originally a candelabra and as you can see her right arm holds three candle branches. It was made into a lamp sometime in the early 1900’s. It is sitting on a heavy substantial ebonized base with gold incising. The surface patina is rich and mellow. The subject is very pensive. As you can see it is all free flowing – the movement is exceptional. There is a winged cherub at her feet holding a bunch of grapes that has exceptionally fine detail. The lampshade could stand to be recovered or replaced – but this is the one the works with it for right now. Overall the lamp itself is 42” at highest with a 7” base diameter. The shade is 14” high with a 20” diameter.
