Description:
Here is an elegant and very impressive 19th century clock suite. The suite consists of the opulent marble clock adorned with a putto reading a world book with two matching urns flanking either side. The off white marble is heavily veined in black with some tinges of rust color. The fully detailed putto is spelter with the original bronze color patination having very finely casted ormalou floral mounts at the base of the clock along with the very French feet also in ormolu. The movement is French having no makers mark. It is an 8 day movement which strikes on the hour and half hour having a very nice sound to the strike. The clock face is enameled metal with delicate floral swags all around. It is in very fine condition. The clock is running and my clock man says that the movement is all original with no replaced parts etc - virtually untouched. It could use a good cleaning - but that’s all! The two matching urns have the same great veining and are lavishly mounted with grotesque mythological faces on each handle along with an armorial crest in the center. Clock measures 20” high x 13 ½” wide x 6 ½” deep. So you can see this is one monumentally stunning Horological Garniture for the mantle or sideboard and it would compliment almost any period or style of furniture. Circa approx. 1870’s-1880”s.
