A really quite wonderful inkwell or inkstand, with a cast bronze Elephant being up on his two rear legs and balancing on a tree trunk which happens to be a pen wipe to remove excess ink from the pens nib.
The Elephant retain his two glass eyes and are undamaged. The hinged lid opens to reveal the removable brass ink chamber.
The plinth is made from solid Oak and is decorated on all four sides with solid cast brass mounts.
A very stylish and scarce desk accessory to add to your collection or to display on your desk.
Dating to around 1880, Victorian in period and in excellent condition, the base measures 6 1/2" x 4" and stands in total 6" tall to highest point.
Worldwide insured airmail included.
