Description:
Roosevelt’s African Trip - The story of his life, the voyage from New York to Mombasa, and the route through the heart of Africa (adventure-travel-exploration). Including The Big Game and other ferocious animals, strange peoples and countries found in the course of his travels by Fredrick William Unger. Unger was a celebrated lecturer, war correspondent, traveler in the Klondike, Manchuria, Africa and other parts of the world. It is lavishly illustrated with black and white engravings, photographs taken in Africa and maps. The book has a frontispiece which is a photograph of Theodore Roosevelt. Copyright 1909. The photographs are so very crisp and intriguing to look at not to mention the intricate and fine detail of the engravings. Fabulously interesting book which is how most of Roosevelt’s adventures were. The binding is quarter leather in a rich dark maroon with a nicely contrasting pea green cloth over board. It has a decorative stamped spine with gold gilt for the lettering. Unfortunately the head of the spine on one side has a tear causing the head to flap over – the other side is still attached to the spine. The tail on the same side also has a tear but they don’t meet and the tail doesn’t flap out. There is also quite a bit of wear and fraying to the head and tail of the spine. The cloth section of the binding is very good. The front inner hinge though loose is still intact and the back inner hinge is hanging on by just a middle two inch long section. There is a POS on the ffep. The pages themselves are very very good with marbleized edges. This book is a large sized 8vo Octavo (9 ½” tall). Striving For Excellence It isn’t brilliance or just getting the breaks, It is consistent attention to & honest respect for the Customer.
