Description:
The Works of Flavius Josephus – The learned and authentic Jewish historian and celebrated warrior. With three dissertations, concerning Jesus Christ, John The Baptist, James The Just, God’s Command to Abraham, &c. Along with explanatory notes and observations. Translated by William Whiston, A.M. – professor of mathematics in the University of Cambridge. Stereotype edition – complete in one volume with portrait and engravings. Pub: Baltimore Armstrong & Berry (no date). 647 pages w/index. 8vo Octavo. No date, circa 1820-30. Unfortunately this book has seen better days. The book is leather bound with gilt décor and lettering on the spine. As you can see from the pictures someone a long time ago attempted to re-backed this book (not properly obviously), with four leather strips. Surprisingly it has held up. There is quite a bit of scuffing and wear to all of the edges. The pages all have quite a bit of foxing and the frontispiece is stuck to the end papers. The inner front hinge is cracked along with the back hinge but due to the re-backing it is quite sturdy and intact. The title page is present but loose. But with all things considered it is an early book which is a fabulous read.
