Description: Antique Asian Carved Food Box. Originally this was used as a presentation box for giving a gift of food or sweets to a government official or honored individual. This elaborately carved wooden box is an excellent decorative piece that is also useful for storing special objects.

The Chinese designed an elaborate array of containers to carry and store things. Some were styled around specific uses--picnics, carrying fish, rice, or water. Some were used for special occasions like carrying ""sweets"" to a wedding party or a Chinese New Year celebration.

Today, many seem whimsical but always make a great home decor accessory. Use them in a variety of ways.
